Lawn Care Tips - Army Worms

Army worms have longitudinal stripes and appear earlier in the year, where as sod-web worms have lateral stripes.

The worms hatch from eggs laid by moths into lush lawns as they provide the best environment for the young larvae. The eggs hatch in 3-10 days. A female can lay 300-2000 eggs over several days after mating at night on nearby flowers of trees or shrubs.

After the removal of all insecticides with any residual acting mode from the market place several years ago, we can only spray for insects present at the time of harvesting. The degree of infestation varies from year to year depending on the climatic conditions over the previous few seasons.

To treat for Army Worms we recommend Sir Walter Pest Control, available in 2kg buckets (covers approximately 500m2) for $19.90 from our online lawn care store couriered to your door.

The habit of these pests is their preference to eat the best and leave the rest. This can result in the defoliation of your newly laid grass.
